Topic: Creating a SQL Server Utility Environment

Can SQL Server be offered as a service (SQLaaS)?  Can SQL Server be treated like a utility that can provide application teams with the ability to easily procure an instance of SQL Server quickly?  Yes and this session will talk about why it is important to start thinking about offering SQLaaS?  SQLaaS benefits everyone and we highlight how this service can be designed and offered to the enterprise.  Many native SQL Server features can be leveraged to offer this service like CMS, Policies and the SQL Server Utility server.  At the end of this session, you will have a different view of how SQL Server could be managed and offered to your organization.

Speaker: Ben DeBow

Ben DeBow is a MDCBA and MCSE focused on SQL Server consolidations, data architecture and performance tuning for organizations both large and small.  The best environments to consult for are ones with diverse issues and challenges because they usually involve leveraging every skillset one has.  Involvement in the SQL community has included 6 years of SQLPass committee member, webcasts for SQLMag and other groups, co-author or reviewer for several Microsoft whitepapers, delivered training and past SQLPass presenter.  Besides his work as a consultant, Ben is a volunteer firefighter, avid traveler and photographer.
